Celebrating 21 Years

Merinotech (WA) Advancements & Milestones
Merinotech (WA) has been breeding high performance rams using a modern, scientific approach for 16 years. Our rams are some of the highest ranking for resistance to worms in Australia. Combined with high value, sound wool, and freedom from fleece rot, they are profitable, easy care sheep renowned for their high lambing percentage and good mothering ability.

Breeding technology – ET, laproscope AI, single sire mating ensure that only the highest ranked rams (2%) are used for breeding flock rams to ensure maximum possible genetic gain.

Full pedigree recording of pedigree flock with over 60 measurements being recorded. There are some 9000 progeny in the Merinotech (WA) database with full records, and another 6000 progeny with single sire records.

The use outside sires from CTSE sites where the sires have traits that match Merinotech (WA) breeding objectives gives us access to genes and bench marking. Merinotech (WA) has entered a ram in the WA CTSE Yardstick every year since the inception of Yardstick in 1994.

Staple Strength – LAMBPLAN results shown on Genetic Trends page.

FWEC – LAMBPLAN and Yardstick results confirm our rams are some of the highest ranking for resistance to worms in Australia.

Fertility – 10% above district averages.
Focus on production per hectare will deliver commercial benefits to our clients’ flocks with productive, easy care, robust sheep.

The Merinotech (WA) mission is to establish sheep breeding systems that consistently improve the performance of our client’s flocks.

The Merino Validation Project will firm up correlations between wool and meat traits, while being the foundation of the Single National Database for merino sheep.

Marketing – the Jumbuck supply chain trials demonstrated that we can supply a desirable product for 12 months of the year. We are still examining other opportunities.

Research and Strategic Alliances – involved in trials examining staple strength with Johan Greeff, colostrum with John Milton, and Electronic ID (EID) with Infineon Technology.

There have been a number of Merinotech (WA) forums held, and Merinotech (WA) has established a reputation of being a strong promoter and user of research and innovation.
